GDR MésoImage, the European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy (Italy) and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) organize a summer school "Waves and disorder". The school will take place in Cargese (Corsica, France) from June 30 to July 12, 2014. It will be focused on fundamental and applied aspects of wave propagation in disordered media. Its main distinctive feature will be the common view on the problems concerning different types of waves : light, sound, elastic and matter waves. Particular attention will be paid to contemporary research directions that emerged only recently and that may lead to important advances in the near future :
- focusing and imaging through opaque media
- non-universal, near-field phenomena in random media
- waves in hyperuniform structures
- interplay of disorder and nonlinearity in wave transport
- strongly disordered media for photovoltaic applications

Within the field of wave propagation in random media, a number of traditional topics has benefited from a spectacular recent progress which will also be covered :
- biomedical imaging with diffuse light
- optical characterization of soft materials
- controlling waves in random media by time-reversal and other techniques
- Anderson localization of classical and quantum waves
- interaction of light with large ensembles of cold atoms
